During the Winter Markets
Beginning in January a new cycle of international Gift and Home trade shows featuring thousands of exhibitors' lines will be attended by tens of thousands of retail store buyers. The majors are emphasizing innovation and trends.
Twice every year, this newsletter looks at the upcoming trade show season. (Jan. 14-21) and
Las Vegas Market (Jan. 26-30), both owned by International Market Centers (IMC), are debuting “Market Snapshot” at the winter shows.
“Market Snapshot” showcases exciting, new, innovative and trendsetting products from across the markets’ furniture, home décor and gift collections on social media, in buyer communications and the markets’ websites. Beginning 11 weeks before the shows, a variety of cross-category products are being selected as finalists for the “People's Choice” awards. Online voting will open two weeks before opening day and winners will be announced at Winter Market.
“Buyers come to market to discover new product, and this new initiative will give them weekly insights into some of the best resources featured at IMC’s markets in Atlanta and Las Vegas,” said Dorothy Belshaw, IMC chief marketing and digital officer. “With Market Snapshot we are providing buyers with a preview of emerging trends and unique finds, and through our at-market ‘People’s Choice’ awards, we are recognizing products that buyers tell us are the best overall” (source).

NY NOW (Feb. 1-5), “retail renaissance” is the focus through its “Transcend” initiative, which promises to transform the winter 2020 Market into an immersive, experiential environment focused on fueling discovery, igniting the imagination and embracing the retailer journey.
“In 2020 we are embracing the retail renaissance, this sweeping change that is transforming the retail environment,” said Kevin O’Keefe, EVP, Emerald Expositions. “Through Transcend we brought retailers beautiful on-floor examples of inspirational presentations created by the nation’s top designers. We introduced Transcend Talks where retailers could learn how to create the best in store discovery experiences for their buyers, how to leverage on-line and social media, and build customer loyalty.”
This season, NY NOW is embracing industry visionaries by harnessing their expertise to expand the content and educational programming that evokes inspiration and creates opportunity for retailers and exhibitors to connect, discover and grow their businesses without leaving the show floor (source).
Dallas Market Center recently announced its theme for 2020's Total Gift and Home Market (Jan. 8-14): “The Five Senses.”
“The Five Senses” was selected as the theme because of its power to help retailers create compelling in-store experiences by harnessing the power of sensory perception. Dallas Market Center executive vice president of marketing Penni Barton explains: “We want to help retailers feel inspired and empowered to tell the narrative of their particular business in ways that are memorable, impactful, and enjoyable. Ultimately, the way people feel when they leave your store is what will make you competitive.”
Interactive displays, for example, will feature each of the five senses presented through vignettes such as Holiday Dinner Party, Glamping, and a French Floral Shop. The presentations will be complemented by QR codes to access product information and to win up to $5000 in “DMC Dollars” for the June 2020 Total Home & Gift Market (source).
